When you are a member of ASID, you are part of the oldest and largest professional organization for interior designers. ASID promotes professionalism in interior design services and products for the workplace and home. The national organization and its local chapters provide a community for designers and industry representatives to exchange information and ideas within the interior design industry.
To encourage involvement from all sectors of the interior design community, ASID offers a range of membership categories. Membership descriptions are provided below.

Professional Members
Professional members of ASID satisfy rigorous acceptance standards. They must have a combination of accredited design education and/or full-time work experience and pass the two-day National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. Professional membership in ARIDO (Canada) or CODDI (Puerto Rico) is transferable to ASID upon proof of said membership.
ASID San Diego offers its members regular study groups and the "Step Program" to help interior designers prepare for the NCIDQ examination.
Allied Members
Allied members practice interior design but have not yet completed the requirements for ASID professional membership. Applicants must fulfill any one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of the NCIDQ exam entitles practitioner members to advance to professional membership.
Allied membership (Education) requires active engagement as department chair or full-time instructor in a post-secondary program of interior design education at any university or accredited school of interior design that requires completion of 45 semester credit hours in interior design-related courses.
Industry Partner Members
Industry Partner members include interior design industry manufacturers and their representatives, related trade associations and market centers. Industry Partners provide opportunities for interaction between interior designers and the interior furnishings industry that supplies services and manufactured products.
Student Members
Student chapter membership is available to students enrolled in an interior design program where an ASID student chapter exists. Independent Student Member membership is available to students in interior design programs in an area not served by an ASID student chapter.
Advancement to Allied Membership is available to student members who have graduated and are eligible for Allied Member status.
